Folkestone's Local
Radio Station
105.9 Academy FM is the Community Radio station for the Folkestone area, and an educational charity. We are unique and won School Radio Station of the Year and BBC Sounds Rising Talent Awards at the Young Audio Awards. We've also won national Community Radio Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018 for our broadcasting and educational work.
We are based in the Folkestone Academy school, and broadcast to the local area on 105.9 FM and online. We have a small team of staff and a large group of volunteers. Our charitable educational work is mainly with young people - they are trained in radio production and along the way learn self-confidence and communication skills, and we run projects on literacy, science, the arts, heritage and many more subjects. We broadcast a vibrant mix of chart hits and classic tunes, and many interviews.
